Wine industry pioneer David Hohnen founded Cape Mentelle in 1970 planting Cabernet Sauvignon at the southern end of Margaret River. In 2023 Endeavour Group, owner of Dan Murphy’s, acquired ownership.
One of Margaret River's founding wineries, Cape Mentelle pioneered many of the region's now established wine styles. They own vineyards across the region: the original Wallcliffe Vineyard, the Trinders Vineyard established in 1988 and the Chapman Brook Vineyard from the early 1990s. Primary plantings are Cabernet Sauvignon, Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc, with smaller amounts of Shiraz, Chardonnay and Zinfandel. Cape Mentelle practise sustainable viticulture which starts in the vineyard and extends to the winery.
Cape Mentelle is one of Australia's renowned wineries. Their leading Cabernet Sauvignon is sourced primarily from the original Wallcliffe Vineyard. Other highlights are their Chardonnay and Zinfandel.
